HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 20

Expressing the appreciation of the Legislature to the State's public utilities and their employees, the National Guard, state and county highway and emergency services personnel, and the citizens of the State for their hard work, perseverance, patience and understanding during the extreme winter conditions of January, 1994.

Whereas, The citizens of West Virginia entered 1994 in the midst of record snow falls and sub-zero temperatures which resulted in massive disruption of utility service and transportation accessibility over a considerable period of time; and

Whereas, These conditions were so severe that the Governor declared a prolonged state of emergency in order to minimize the threat to the health and safety of our citizens; and
Whereas, The State's public utilities and their employees, the National Guard, and state and county highway and emergency services personnel responded with timeliness and dedication in restoring utility service and reopening transportation arteries in the face of perilous conditions which threatened their own health and safety; and
Whereas, The citizens of the State also responded in the face of the many adversities before them with the Mountaineer spirit, fortitude, patience and understanding long evidenced in our State's history; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the Legislature hereby expresses its appreciation to the State's utilities and their employees, the National Guard, state and county highway and emergency services personnel, and the citizens of the State for their hard work, perseverance, patience and understanding during the extreme winter conditions of January, 1994.
